Cyberpunk 2077 owes its rich knowledge to R. Talsorian Games, the developer who created the Cyberpunk tabletop universe in the 1980s. When the CD Projekt video game launched in 2020, Cyberpunk Red – the latest iteration of the tabletop role-playing game – launched one month before it. Now R. Talsorian is returning to the source, developing a new set of updated TTRPG based entirely on the Netflix series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission Kit is a new in-box launcher for the Cyberpunk Red game engine. UR. Talsorian said Monday that the news release will include “important rules and stories about Dark Future, Night City, the Edgerunners, and more.” No release date or price has been announced.
What’s interesting here for tabletop fans is that it’s original Cyberpunk Red as well as Cyberpunk Red: The Jumpstart Kit – and all subsequent publications – took place in the year 2045 Edgerunners Mission Kit so it will be fans first by tapping into the same kind of technology and fantasy found in the video game.
“I Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission Kit will guide fans of the new series of tablet characters through the process of telling their stories in Night City,” said R. Talsorian Games in a press release. “At the same time, existing Cyberpunk RED players will get their first look at the cyberware, firepower, and netrunning capabilities of the 2077 era.”
Does that mean that R. Talsorian leaving the world of 2045 behind? Absolutely not, a company spokesperson tells Polygon. While the 2077-themed sourcebook is also in the works, the 2045 timeline will continue to be supported with additional content in the future.
