Selena Gomez Responds To Claims That She Dumped Francia Raisa In Favor Of Taylor Swift

Selena Gomez is speaking out after her comments about her friendship with Taylor Swift sparked an unexpected controversy on social media.

Speaking in Rolling Stone in an interview published last week, Gomez described Swift as her “only friend in the industry,” adding: “I’ve never had a cool celebrity girl group.”

On Saturday, E! News shared a quote from Gomez on Instagram, and a series of throwback photos that showed the couple together on stage, on the beach and at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Among those who will comment on this project was the actress Francia Raísa, who has worked for more than ten years as an actress and singer.

“Interesting,” wrote Raísa, best known for her television spots “The Secret Life of an American Teenager” and “Grown-ish.”

Although he has since deleted the comments, they were tweeted for posterity by Pop Crave, a celebrity news account.

The day after the E! In a news post, TikTok user Stephanie Tleiji shared a video repeating what many interpreted as a snub.

In the clip, Tleiji also noted that Raísa was not following Gomez on Instagram and was not in the new documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.”

Gomez responded to these accusations in the words of this video, writing: “Sorry I didn’t tell everyone I know.”

The social media talk comes nearly five years after Raísa donated her kidney to Gomez, who needed a transplant after being diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease.

“There are no words to describe how I can thank my good friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez wrote on Instagram in 2017. “He gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating his kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”

While the status of her friendship with Raísa remains to be clarified, Gomez is currently riding a wave of critical acclaim for “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me,” which premiered on AppleTV+ last week.

I New York Times called the documentary “an honest portrait of fame,” while Variety praised its “brilliant” handling of mental health issues.
